It's alive!!!

Ever heard of people mistaking dolphins for sharks? Happens all the time but you have to know what a dophin is and what a shark is and know the difference. A dolphin is a mammal and so his fins are horizontal. A shark is a fish and so his fins are vertical. So it is with our writing. Do we know the items we are writing about and be sure that technically at least it is correct, if not with a literary correctness. Research is the key, and extensive research, not something over the top. Do critical thinking, and the writing on the page will make sense and be looked on favorably.

DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!!

Many an afternoon I spent with my family at the Saints' games in Tulane stadium then in the New Orleans Superdome. Many a day we were chanting and cheering, even when the Saints were losing, crying out for "DEFENSE, DEFENSE!!!" And that is what we all need to do, cheer ourselves onward and upward to defense ourselves against thoughts like "I cannot do this!!!" You can, you can, you can...because God has endowed you with those abilities. Hang in there! DEFENSE!

What a moment!!!

The moment that Baryshnikov made the fuete turns in The Turning Point, the moment that the Americans scored the goals against a bigger, faster team in the Russians, the moment that Dempsey kicked a 63 year field goal that has yet to be topped in the record books...that is the moment that people wait for, hope for, train for...and the moment that your book is published. That is the moment you write for.

Ready, set, relax

I have worked hard ever since I can remember. Whether I was in school studying for an Anatomy or Genetics exam or I was working with veterinarians walking and medicating animals, I worked hard. Now I work hard because many times there are others that cannot do what I can do or won't do what I can do. Regardless, when I want to rest...when my body says it's time to slow down, I do. I had to learn that it was OK to do that. Because I had pressures from everyone to keep going that they needed this or that. And so I had to learn to say I am "out of the office". And there is a purpose behind resting, it rejuvenates you. See how much more you can get done when you rest. You'll be amazed!!!

What a wet day!!!

Sunday, 9/25/2011, is probably one of the wetest days in Rock Hill's history. Ah well, good day for sleeping or inside things. Writing is good. At any rate, take advantage of this time, write, read, call friends...free associate, have some fun.

I CAN!!!

Yes, I can!!! I can dream...I can hope...and there is a reason. God came down to earth for me and for all those that believe. And it is my goal to walk in that faith that He strengthens me so that I can accomplish much. And I can!!! In Him!!! And so can you and you and you....

It's been a long, long time

This blogger has been a while being updated and I apologize.

The intentions are to bring you up to date on my site, to give tips to the average Joe (or Josephine) who doesn't have an English or Journalistic degrees. And as so often happens the busy-ness of life and living with an aging mother with failing health has kind of interupted this intention.

And so often that happens. Life gets in the way. And that's no big deal. The thing is to push back and find the time and pray hard for moments when you can update your sites or finish that novel. Because without it you cannot complete something that you've been wanting to do, but more importantly your life is important and writing or whatever is what makes it that way to you.

Hang in there. Fit it in when you can. And don't pout!!!

P-R-E-S-S-U-R-E

Ever heard the Billy Joel song "Pressure!"? It is such a telling song and yet we all give into it. Every day has its own pressures and the only way to survive them is to repeat, "But I survived these before. Maybe not the same ones but similar and I can do it again." True, you can do it again. And again. And again. The pressures that push us to eat, or drink or do what ever we think will relieve us of our hurts are really something to push those buttons so that we do what may not be the best thing for us. And will keep us from accomplishing the task at hand.

Don't give in. Know what you should do and then do it!!!

This is the day!!

Today you must write. Today you must do what is in your heart to do. Your journey begins with that moment and you must follow it. No matter how long it takes, no matter what you must live through it is a given that unless you make the step you cannot get to where you are going. Go forward and be fruitful...no way to be fruitful if you just stand still.

Today is the day

Write!!! Right??? Write as though there is no tommorrow because as Landen Saunders says about Jesus telling His apostles to get to work because "Night comes". Remember those times when things draw you away from the task at hand? You do have another life or other lives. You may be a mom or dad. You may be a carpooler. You may be a government worker. Who knows but when the spirit moves, write...because Night comes and you'll be pulled away. Work when you can, don't fret it when you can't but when the opportunity arises again, write....

Characters

Always be true to the characters in your stories. Always cherish them. Even the bad ones...because this book that you write is your baby and characters help this baby grow into something unique and give it personality. Nothing worse than static characters.

Writer's Block?

No such thing...a dry spot? a time to stew and brew so that thoughts may align themselves. That's all that is. When I am away from my pen and paper, when I am considering my book or my poetry there are times o dormancy and times of dynamic sprouting of words to the page. And this is natural, it is God given. Without rest there is no pressing forward with anything.

POETRY IN MOTION

Poetry is the emotional release, even for epic poems such as The ILLYAID and for poems such as the CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE. There is so much energy, emotion, and angst that goes into writing poetry that the reader comes to know the heart if not the soul of the writer. Enjoying a poem is easier in this light as there are many who would not go out of their way to buy a poetry book but love a good poem.

BOOKS, BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS

Anyone know the biggest library??? I certainly don't know how many books I have but it is fairly extensive. I have had someone call it eclectic. I suppose that is good. I would like to think most people's are eclectic, especially those who presume to spout an education. It is amazing that you can have an extensive library and not be eclectic. My brother, a classical musician, had an extensive music library but not electic, hence he had no clue who Fleetwood Mac was. Not that anyone needs to be either way. We are Americans and free to know or not know. Ask me about a major film star is and I would problably give you someone from the 1980's going backward. I have no clue who is a major film star now, except perhaps Colin Firth, Meryl Streep etc. both of whom I know since prior to the year 2000. Anyway. Books, music, films whatever we espouse in whatever manner defines us and parts of what makes us us.

Today is the day

A new look. That's what this blog is all about. I will have a website of this same name, and you can follow me on Facebook. This blog and soon to be website will be the journey of life. That's what Qi is, the lifeforce, the beating heart, the soul that transcends all the aches and pains and cries out to the Father when hurting and laughs and shouts to the LORD when joyous. Feel free to add to this life-story.

Mine is typical of many Americans. I am multi-cultural. I have a mom that was born in Nicaragua and a dad that was born in Plattenville, Louisiana. The appreciation for my parents cannot be described. My mom taught me to love good music, my dad taught me to think. And I am forever grateful to them. More on this later

This is just an introduction. I will add snippets, plus update on books that I have written, books that I have read and bits and piece of life will interweave.
