The concept of church and state is not a new one. From ancient times and ancient theocracies that said, "You will believe as the state believes" to even present day where we are afraid to even say a prayer before school or court presiding for fear that is not separation of church and state. We are sooo afraid of offending anyone that we will not even acknowledge the Holy God that exists, not just in my belief, not just in your belief, not just in the Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Catholic, Hindu, Greek Orthodox, or whatever other religion out there. There is always a higher power. There had better be...I hate to think that this life with all the hardships in it is all we get. And that is not what the prayer before school is all about anyway. It's about acknowledging that God is in control of everything, the court, our leadership, our lives. And that there is only one God...
I heard yesterday someone say, "I prayed to God to take my headache away and He didn't. I took an aspirin and it went away." I felt like calling this announcer and saying, "Who provided you with the aspirin? Who provided the scientist with the knowledge to concoct a dram of medicine to get rid of that headache?" We have to stop thinking of God as a prestidigitator. We have to stop thinking of Him as pulling a rabbit out of a hat and realize He is a Holy God. He doesn't answer every prayer the way we like it. He doesn't have to.
Do you believe in one God? James says, "Good, even the demons believe and shudder", (James 2:19)
